Oxycontin Addiction Treatment

Oxycontin: A Blessing and a Curse

sprout_fl_oxycontin_treatmentPeople suffering from daily pain need to find a way to relieve their symptoms. Back, bone, and muscle pain can get in the way of everyday life and cause constant irritation, unhappiness, and misery. The most popular drug doctors will turn to for moderate to severe pain is an opioid painkiller called OxyContin. While its effectiveness in alleviating pain and discomfort is phenomenal, it is also one of the most dangerously addictive prescriptions today.

The Addiction

As an opioid, OxyContin has similar effects to heroin, codeine, and morphine. Although it is legal and prescribed by a doctor, it is a common cause of many deadly addictions. It works by killing the pain, which it’s meant to do. However, it also only allows feelings of Euphoria to pass into the brain’s receptors. This sensation provides temporary relief from any mental distress as well. With continued use of OxyContin and other opioids, people find that they enjoy the feeling of bliss and mental relief the medication provides. They also discover that the withdrawal symptoms cause them to feel the opposite effects of the pleasant, euphoric high. Cravings develop and soon enough, so they have a physical and mental dependence to the drug that can only be appeased with the more OxyContin.

Prescriptions for opioids are avoided if possible, and ibuprofen or acetaminophen are usually recommended. Unfortunately, when no other option subdues the pain and OxyContin is prescribed, the risk of addiction is extremely high. Patients with addictive tendencies, who would have otherwise avoided the drug, feel that there is no choice.

Treatment

Sprout Health Florida has successfully treated many patients with an addiction to OxyContin and other opioids. Since addictions to prescription medications have become so common, our staff has learned the best and most successful techniques to combat this particular addiction.

Treatment starts with an in-depth analysis and evaluation of each patient and their issues regarding substance abuse as well as their mental well-being. This is followed by a careful detox process that is custom to every individual and created to minimize the discomfort that accompanies withdrawal.

Aside from detox and perhaps most important, is the therapy treatment. Sprout Health Florida uses advanced Cognitive Behavioral Therapy techniques to train patients on how to live a fulfilling life without succumbing to addiction.

If OxyContin Addiction is something that has consumed you or a loved one’s life, call Sprout Health Florida and see how we can help.
